AFC Leopards 2-1 Posta Rangers: Rupia, Shaka hand Ingwe third straight win

The home side was dominant for the better part of the encounter and ended up collecting all three points

Elvis Rupia and Bienvenue Shaka scored in AFC Leopards’ 2-1 win over Posta Rangers in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League tie at Kasarani on Saturday.

The Mailmen, who are with just one win in ten games, denied AFC Leopards a clean sheet when Clinton Kisiavuki scored in the second half.

Ingwe almost opened the score in the 20th minute when they won a free-kick just outside the box but goalkeeper Bryne Omondi tipped Austin Odhiambo’s effort that was directed to the top corner, over the bar.

The resultant corner was cleared late as Ingwe, after taking a short one, tried to find way past the crowded penalty area by making passes around the box.

A curled effort by Collins Shivachi in the 25th minute went just wide when he attempted to fire home from outside the box as Posta Rangers resorted to defending deep.

The former league champions got the opener they had been relentlessly looking for when Rupia’s ferocious left-footed strike found the top corner in the 29th minute.

Ingwe doubled the lead in the 36th minute when Posta Rangers’ Omondi was unable to stop Rupia’s header and Shaka was close enough to tap home the rebound.

Sammy Omollo’s side had the ball into the net in the 51st minute but the referee ruled the goal out as he judged Gerson Likono handled the ball before striking.

A combined effort between Odhiambo, Marvin Nabwire and Rupia almost added the third goal for the home side but Rupia launched a feeble shot that was cleared by Posta Rangers, who had retreated under pressure in the 66th minute.

Chances by Collins Shichenje and Peter Thiong’o, in the 69th and in the 75th minutes, went out with AFC Leopards looking the hungrier side for goals.

In the last ten minutes, however, the Mailmen looked ambitious and challenged AFC Leopards and in the 83rd minute, Kisiavuki scored for them.

After Posta Rangers registered a goal, AFC Leopards’ Anthony Kimani made changes to strengthen the midfield area. Hansel Ochieng and Eugene Mukangula came on in places of Rupia and Shaka, respectively.
