The rematch between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez took just over eight years to sign.
Their first meeting took place in 2012, at junior flyweight, with Gonzalez winning a twelve round unanimous decision.
For that fight, Estrada dropped down to 108-pounds, his only bout at the weight, and says the weight limit drained him a bit.
Since that meeting, Estrada has become one of the best fighters in the sport and captured world titles at flyweight and super flyweight.
He will stake his WBC world title, while Gonzalez will enter the ring with the WBA strap.
The rematch will take place on March 13 in Dallas, Texas, with DAZN streaming the event.
Estrada is not looking to win a close points decision and he’s not even looking to reach the final bell – he wants to close the show by ending the fight inside the distance.
“I am confident that I already know Chocolatito. I will be very different from the first time, since a long time has passed. I’m preparing not only to win, but to get a knockout because I don’t want to leave any doubts,” declared Estrada to Erika Montoya.
At the same time, Estrada wants the rematch to live up to the hype – since fans have been asking for the fight for several years.
The rematch was derailed after Gonzalez was beaten twice by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai – but he rebuilt his career and captured the WBA title with a knockout of unbeaten Kal Yafai.
“I hope that Roman (Gonzalez) is training hard so that it is a fight that remains in history because I’m bringing a lot of motivation and more so now that I just got married,” added Estrada.
