WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel Berchelt is only a few weeks away from his anticipated showdown with mandatory challenger Oscar Valdez.

The two boxers are scheduled to collide on February 20th, at the MGM Grand’s Conference Center in Las Vegas.

Valdez, an undefeated former WBO featherweight champion, moved up to 130-pounds to chase after another world title.

They were initially scheduled to fight in December – and late postponed after Berchelt tested positive for COVID-19.

Berchelt is preparing for a war, but he’s also getting ready if the potential scenario comes up where Valdez intends to outbox him.

Valdez, an Olympian for Mexico, has one of the top trainers in the sport in his corner, Eddy Reynoso – best known for training Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia and several others.

The contest will certainly provide Berchelt with his biggest name opponent to date.

He believes Valdez is the right foe to take his career to the next level.

“I feel very good, very happy and highly motivated, the boxing fans are waiting for the fight, they are already desperate to see the fight, that fight was already warming up for two years. Last year, we lost [the date] due to the pandemic, but now this year it will be presented on February 20 in Las Vegas,” Berchelt told Marco Claro.

“We are working on everything, you don’t know if he is going to come forward, if he’s going to box…. there are two very good chess players in the fight, they are in our corners, Eddy Reynoso and Alfredo Caballero. If we have to fight or box, we will be prepared for everything.

“This fight has all the ingredients to be the fight of the year, the aspects don’t have to be modified. This is the most high profile fight for me, a two-time Olympian will take me to another level, it’s good that we couldn’t fight as amateurs and now it will happen in the pros.”
