Accra Great Olympics midfielder, Gladson Awako, has made a passionate appeal to some big clubs and coaches to desist from retiring players even before their time.
2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup winner Gladson Awako made this appeal in an interview with Otec 102.9.
“The issue of old player syndrome in Ghana must stop because when I returned to Ghana to continue my career, most of our big clubs and coaches said I am old and not fit to play, but, I thank God the team I joined (Olympics) has beaten those clubs,” Awako told OTEC FM
“Starting football at the earlier stages doesn’t mean the player cannot play to expectation.”
“They should allow the experienced players into our league and stop tagging us as old players” He added
Awako has had stints with Berekum Chelsea, Congolese giants TP Mazembe and is currently plying his trade for Accra Great Olympics.
