Sergio Martinez’s Fight Card To Move Forward, With Some Changes

Spread the love

Maravilla Box will go ahead with their show in Torrelavega (Spain) on December 19 – but the event will have some changes due to COVID-19.

Maravilla himself, former two division world champion Sergio Martinez, will continue his comeback against Finn boxer Jussi Koivula. And Sergio Garcia will defend the EBU title super welterweight title against Andranik Hakobyan along with three undercard fights that includes Norwegian featherweight Bernard Torres.

Moved to a later date is the fight for the vacant EBU flyweight title between Mohammed Obbadi and Angel Moreno and the planned fights featuring Kiko Martinez and Jon Fernandez. These fights will go ahead early next year.

The fight for the vacant EBU lightweight title between Edis Tatli and Gianluca Ceglia had December 12 as a working date – but it’s now moved to January 2021. This one has been postponed a few times already and the promoter never announced that the fight was on.

For those who are looking on boxrec for results from Queensberry Poland’s inaugural show in Poland from this past weekend, please be advised that boxrec does not list results from the sanctioning body that supervised this show. As to why, you would have to ask them.

Non-Polish speaking fans can find a complete report from this event at bokser.org and Google translate works just fine.

The IBO had announced a fight between light heavyweights Oscar Ahlin and Ronny Landaeta with the Intercontinental title at stake on December 19 in Spain. The IBO did sanction the fight, and Landaeta signed the contract, but there was another offer coming in and the Spaniard will – as BoxingScene previously reported – fight in France on December 5 against Kevin Lele Sadjo with the vacant WBA I-C super middleweight title at stake. Ahlin is now looking for another opponent.

Swedish super lightweight and former EBU champ and world title challenger Anthony “Can You Dig It” Yigit, now training in Miami, reports on social media that a fight – his first since July 2019 and his first since parting ways with Team Sauerland – is almost set. However, where, when and against who is not reported.
