Arsenal 0-1 Leicester City: Substitute Vardy ends Gunners’ unbeaten home run

Spread the love

That’s all for today, goodbye!

Leicester end their two-match losing run in the league with that win and they move up to fourth in the table. Their attention turns back to the Europa League now when they face AEK. Arsenal have now lost their last two Premier League matches, and they drop down to ninth. Like Leicester, they now look forward to the Europa League and their game against Dundalk.

Vardy’s goal earns a 1-0 win for Leicester City over Arsenal. The home side had a goal ruled out just four minutes in when Aubameyang helped Lacazette’s header in at the far post from an offside position. Vardy came off the bench in the second half and scored a free-header into an empty net. He could’ve had a second in stoppage-time, but Leno denied him with a good save.

G. Xhaka

Yellow Card

90′ + 5′ Xhaka is booked after he pulls back Under to stop his run.

90′ + 4′ Pepe pulls away from Castagne and chips a cross into the near post. No Arsenal players have made that run and Schmeichel comes off his line to tip it out for a corner.

90′ + 2′ GREAT SAVE! Vardy is in on goal again after pulling away from Mustafi on the left of the box. He’s one-on-one with Leno and tries to lift his shot over the keeper, but he ends up blocking it with his head and it goes out for a corner.

90′ + 1′ Mustafi plays a long ball over the top to pick out Nketiah’s run through the middle into the box. He just nudges Fofana out of the way as he brings it down though and gives away a free-kick.

89′ Partey floats a long ball into the box and he’s looking to pick out Bellerin on the right. He sets himself to take a shot on the volley, but Fuchs throws his body in front of it to make a block.

87′ Vardy has scored five goals at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League; the most of any visiting player (overtaking Harry Kane on four).

M. Albrighton

J. Maddison

Leicester City

85′ Final change for Leicester now and Albrighton is coming on to replace Maddison.

83′ Arsenal are keeping Leicester penned back in their own half at the moment as they try to find an equaliser. All of their play is in front of the away side though and they can’t get into the final third.

E. Nketiah

K. Tierney

81′ Arteta is making his final change following Leicester’s goal as he brings on Nketiah for Tierney.

C. Ünder

Leicester City

80′ It’s a great run from Under that draws the defender and the goalkeeper out to him on the right of the box which leaves Vardy the space at the far post for the header.

J. Vardy

Leicester City

80′ VARDY SCORES! Leicester move the ball upfield quickly and nobody picks up Vardy’s run down the left of the box. Under crosses it to him and he heads it into the back of the empty net. 1-0 Leicester!

79′ Arsenal are struggling to get on the ball at the moment as Leicester patiently play out from the back. Maddison tries to play another throughball forward for Vardy, but this one is cut out by Ceballos.

77′ Maddison spots Vardy’s run between Arsenal’s centre-backs and plays a throughball forward for him to chase. It’s overhit though and it runs all the way through to Leno.

C. Ünder

H. Barnes

Leicester City

75′ Second change for Leicester now and Under is coming on for Barnes.

J. Evans

Yellow Card

Leicester City

74′ Evans pushes Lacazette into Tielemans when he jumps to head the ball back into the box and is shown a yellow card.

72′ Vardy plays it out wide to Justin before continuing his run into the box. The left-back drills a low cross into the area, but it’s too close to Leno and he cuts out the ball at the near post.

70′ Pepe plays a one-two with Lacazette to create some space for him to run into down the middle. He tries to go past Evans but leaves the ball behind and Tielemans collects it.

68′ GOOD SAVE! It’s a great cross from Aubameyang from the byline on the left and he picks out Bellerin, who is unmarked on the right of the box. He hits the shot first time on the volley and Schmeichel gets two strong hands to it to deny him.

J. Maddison

Yellow Card

Leicester City

67′ Maddison gives the ball away and brings down Lacazette down in his attempts to win it back. He’s shown a yellow card.

N. Pépé

B. Saka

65′ Second change for Arsenal now and it’s Saka making way for Pepe.

64′ Mustafi lifts a good cross towards the edge of the box where Lacazette is running onto it. He can’t control it with his first touch though and he ends up knocking Fuchs in his attempts to win it back.

62′ Tierney puts a long throw-in into the box and Lacazette jumps highest in the middle to meet it. He flicks it onto the far post, but Evans is there for Leicester to clear the danger.

J. Vardy

D. Praet

Leicester City

60′ Leicester make their first change of the game and it’s Vardy coming on for Praet.

59′ Tierney pulls away from Castagne on the left again and tries to put a cross into the box first time. He’s got Aubameyang in the middle to aim for, but Fofana is back to block it.

A. Lacazette

Yellow Card

57′ Lacazette runs into Evans and brings him down so is shown a yellow card.

55′ It’s Saka that’s caught on the ball this time and Tielemans picks out Praet with a throughball. He has Maddison to his left and plays in the midfielder. He fires a shot on goal from the edge of the box and Gabriel blocks it.

54′ Maddison nicks the ball off Ceballos on the halfway line and spots Leno off his line. He has another speculative effort, trying to catch out the keeper, but it lands on the roof of the net.

W. Fofana

Yellow Card

Leicester City

52′ Fofana is booked after he catches Saka with a late tackle.

51′ Leicester win the ball back in their own half and Tielemans tries to play in Justin who is in space on the left. It’s a poor pass from him though and it’s intercepted by Bellerin.

S. Mustafi

David Luiz

49′ David Luiz has just gone down injured and isn’t able to carry on after treatment. Mustafi comes on to replace him.

48′ Praet has a lot of space to run into on the right and he has Maddison ahead of him in the middle. He plays a pass early and overhits, much to Maddison’s frustration, so Leno comes off his line to collect it.

46′ Arsenal get us back underway for the second half!

Arteta’s side dominated in the first half and had a couple of good opportunities to open the scoring. If they continue to play this way, it looks like it’ll only be a matter of time until they find the back of the net. Leicester have barely caused Arsenal any trouble at the back and Rodgers will want to see a big improvement from his side going forward after the break.

It’s goalless at the break between Arsenal and Leicester. The home side thought they’d taken the lead just four minutes in when Lacazette’s header bounced in at the far post, but it was ruled out for offside as Aubameyang helped it over the line from an offside position. Saka and Lacazette both saw efforts saved by Schmeichel and Aubameyang headed over from close range.

45′ Tielemans takes a quick free-kick in his own half and he’s looking for Praet with his long ball over the top. It’s just out of his reach though and Gabriel comes away with it.

43′ Leicester break quickly after winning the ball back on the halfway line and Justin is played in on the left. His first cross is blocked and he’s forced wide which gives Arsenal chance to get back and close down the space again.

Y. Tielemans

Yellow Card

Leicester City

41′ Tielemans clatters into Saka from behind to bring him down and he picks up a booking.

40′ Aubameyang is a long way out when he picks up the ball but he decides to have a shot from long range. He fires his shot towards goal, but it takes a deflection off Fuchs which sends it wide.

38′ Saka gets between Castagne and Fofana and squares the ball to Lacazette on the edge of the box. He tries to turn past Evans, but the defender manages to get a touch on it to help it back to Schmeichel.

36′ Leicester are struggling to get out of their own half at the moment as Arsenal close them down high up the field. Fuchs tries to play in Barnes, but his pass is overhit and David Luiz comes away with it.

34′ Fofana has stayed down after being caught by Lacazette and it looks like a problem with his knee. He’s getting some treatment on it now but he’s quickly back to his feet and it looks like he’ll be able to carry on.

C. Fuchs

Yellow Card

Leicester City

32′ Fuchs is booked after he catches Lacazette with a late challenge.

Yellow Card

30′ Bellerin picks up the first yellow card of the game after sticking out a leg to trip up Barnes.

29′ CLOSE! Tierney pulls away from Castagne down the left again and whips another great cross into the penalty area. Lacazette gets a touch onto it just ahead of Fuchs behind him and it bounces just wide of the far post.

28′ GOOD CHANCE! Tierney swings a great cross in from the left and he picks out Lacazette on the edge of the six-yard box. His header loops up and Schmeichel comes off his line to collect it.

26′ Nobody picks up Bellerin’s run down the right of the box and he puts a cross into the middle first time when he gets it from Partey. None of his team-mates make a run into the area and Evans clears his lines.

24′ Arsenal win the ball back in their own half again and Saka switches play out to Aubameyang on the right. He swings a good cross into the box towards Lacazette but Schmeichel comes off his line to collect it.

22′ GREAT CHANCE! Nobody is picking up Aubameyang in the middle of the box and Tierney picks him out with his cross into the middle. The forward flicks it towards goal, but it flies over the crossbar.

21′ Xhaka plays a great throughball forward for Lacazette to chase and he stays onside. He stops on the edge of the box before laying it onto Saka and he has a shot from a tight angle on the left but it’s stopped by Schmeichel.

19′ Leicester have played more Premier League away games against Arsenal without ever winning than they have vs any other opponent in the competition (14 – D2 L12). Their 1-1 draw at the Emirates last season ended a run of 12 straight away losses against Arsenal.

17′ Leicester are being penned back deep in their own half at the moment as Arsenal continue to pile the pressure on. Tierney is trying to make something happen down the left again, but this time, his cross is blocked by Fofana.

15′ David Luiz switches play out to Tierney on the left with a great floated pass and the left-back has space to run into. Castagne gets across to him quickly though and blocks his cross into the box.

13′ Fuchs plays a loose pass forward for Tielemans, but it’s cut out by Lacazette on the stretch. He lays the ball off to Saka on the edge of the box, but his shot takes a deflection off Fofana which takes it out for a corner.

11′ It’s a great ball over the top from David Luiz to pick out Bellerin’s run into the right of the box. He times his run perfectly to stay onside but takes one too many touches in the area which gives Evans chance to get back and block his shot.

9′ Xhaka steps up to take the free-kick, but it’s a poor effort from him. There’s no power on the low shot and it’s blocked by the Leicester wall before Evans clears his lines.

8′ Aubameyang plays a good throughball into Lacazette and he lifts the ball over Tielemans to try and get to the edge of the box. The midfielder steps across him though and Arsenal have a free-kick just outside the box.

6′ Maddison is fouled by Lacazette and he’s standing over the free-kick in midfield. He floats a cross towards Fuchs at the far post, but Tierney gets ahead of him to clear the danger for Arsenal.

4′ OFFSIDE! Lacazette flicked on the corner at the near post and into the far bottom corner. The flag goes up for offside though as Aubameyang got a touch on it at the far post, so it won’t count.

2′ Leno comes out of his box to clear Evans’ pass but he gives it straight to Maddison. He’s a long way out on the left but he has a shot on the empty goal and it’s just wide of the near post.

1′ Praet gets the game underway for Leicester!
