Paris Saint-Germain 4-0 Dijon: Kean off the mark with first-half double

Spread the love

That is all from this Ligue 1 fixture, until next time!

Next in the league for PSG is Nantes, however, they face a trip to Istanbul Basaksehir before that in the Champions League. For their opponents, they remain rooted to the bottom of the table and will host Lorient in their next Ligue 1 fixture.

Tuchel’s side coast to yet another victory against Dijon at Parc des Princes. A first-half brace from Kean, followed by Mbappe’s second-half brace means the hosts run out 4-0 winners, despite not having to get out of second gear all game. There was one chance for Dijon at 1-0, which Balde spurned in the area, but apart from that Jobard’s side will be disappointed.

90′ + 1′ FULL-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 4-0 DIJON

90′ + 1′ Neymar attempts to grab a fifth but his progress is thwarted by Ecuele Manga near the centre circle.

90′ There will be one minute of added time as PSG head towards the simplest of victories.

Pablo Sarabia

Assist

PSG

88′ Sarabia chooses to pass rather than shoot and assists Mbappe from inside the six-yard box.

K. Mbappé

Goal

PSG

88′ GOALLL!!! 4-0 PSG! The simplest of tap-ins for Mbappe’s second as he is squared the ball by Sarabia inside the area. Neymar had cut inside and found Sarabia at the back post before the latter set up Mbappe.

87′ Neymar rounds the full-back and the goalkeeper before falling to the ground and appealing for a penalty. Referee Hamel sees it differently and allows play to go on.

86′ Ebimbe, who has perhaps been Dijon’s brightest spark, wins a corner on the right via a deflection off of Bakker. Chouiar takes but PSG clear it away.

B. Fadiga

Rafinha

PSG

85′ Rafinha, who has covered a lot of ground in this game, comes off for Fadiga.

84′ Looking at the replay for that goal, Allagbe may be slightly disappointed in himself to concede through his legs in that fashion. Needless to say, that third goal means it is game over here at Parc des Princes.

Neymar

Assist

PSG

82′ Neymar gets his second assist as he breaks away and then plays a simple right-footed pass into the path of Mbappe.

K. Mbappé

Goal

PSG

82′ GOALLLL!!! 3-0 PSG! Mbappe slides the ball onto his left foot before driving through Allagbe’s legs inside the area. Initially, Neymar had raced away from Dijon’s defence before playing a simple pass for Mbappe.

82′ Diallo makes an effort to head back to Rico but the goalkeeper cannot get to it and Dijon will have a corner on the right-hand side, which comes to nothing.

81′ Neymar cuts inside and is then dragged back by Cheikh to win another free-kick 20 yards out from goal in another good position. However, for the third or fourth time in this game, Neymar fires over the bar.

A. Scheidler

Mama Baldé

Dijon

79′ Scheidler is also brought on by Jobard for Balde, who missed that glorious opportunity at 1-0.

F. Chafik

S. Boey

Dijon

79′ Boey slowly makes his way off the pitch as Chafik comes on in the full-back’s place.

78′ Sarabia is taken out from behind but the referee isn’t interested. Dijon then counter-attack and win a corner through Celina. Can they grab a goal to make the ending nervy for the hosts?

77′ There are chances at either end within the space of a minute. Firstly, Balde shot wide with his left-foot before Neymar went down the other end and attempted to chip Allagbe with his weaker foot.

75′ Dagba speeds down the right-hand side before sensibly opting to play backwards and retain possession as the game heads into its final quarter.

K. Mbappé

M. Kean

PSG

73′ Kean, despite being on a hat-trick, is substituted off for Mbappe, who had been rested to manage his workload.

K. Ruiz-Atil

Marquinhos

PSG

73′ Marquinhos hands Neymar the armband before he heads off to be replaced by Ruiz-Atil.

72′ Referee Hamel stops the game as Kean is down clutching his knee. The striker had made an effort to block Ecuele Manga’s long clearance and now receives treatment from the medical team.

B. Celina

M. Konaté

Dijon

70′ Konate is Jobard’s next change of the game as Celina rushes on in place of the attacker.

J. Panzo

Yellow Card

Dijon

69′ Panzo is cautioned by Hamel for standing on the back of Rafinha’s ankles.

69′ Neymar is fouled in the centre of the park by Balde and stands over the free-kick 35 yards from goal. Surprisingly, the hosts opts to play backwards and retain possession.

67′ Herrera and Cheikh are both down on the ground after a tackle between the pair but it is the visitors who get the free-kick, which comes to nothing.

65′ It has been a fairly uneventful start to this second half. PSG look content in possession to just manipulate the ball from side to side, while Dijon look like they are lacking the creativity to cause the hosts any real problems.

63′ It looks like the visitors’ struggles are set to continue. They have won only once in their last 13 Ligue 1 games (D5 L7), against Toulouse in March (2-1). They are winless in their last seven top-flight games (D2 L5), the division’s joint-longest current drought along with Reims.

61′ Boey coasts past Neymar before playing in Balde, who reaches the byline before his cross is blocked in the area by Diallo at the front post.

Ander Herrera

J. Draxler

PSG

59′ Draxler, who has just started limping, struggles off the pitch and will be replaced in midfield by Herrera.

58′ Neymar does the most unnecesary piece of skill as he flicks the ball in the air and knocks it back over his head on the edge of his own box. Dijon nearly capitalise from the winger’s mistake but Ebimbe can only fire straight into the hands of Rico.

56′ Draxler aims to play in Sarabia with a chipped pass but he gets the weight of his throughball wrong, which allows Allagbe to sweep up.

P. Diop

W. Lautoa

Dijon

55′ Lautoa is the first change of the game as he is replaced by Cheikh.

55′ Paris have never conceded a goal in their five Ligue 1 home games against Dijon, their best streak on their own ground among teams faced more than once in the top-flight. Dijon have always conceded at least two goals in each of their trips to Parc des Princes in Ligue 1 (21 in total).

53′ SAVE! Neymar fires his free-kick into the wall but chips a cross towards the back post which is met by Sarabia, who volleys with his right foot but Allagbe makes a good save, diving low to his left.

52′ Neymar throws himself into the air as he is brought down by Lautoa on the edge of the area. Once again, PSG will have a free-kick in a dangerous position 20 yards out.

51′ Kean is perhaps too selfish as he shoots wide after being played in by Neymar. The Brazillian winger and Sarabia looked like better options either side of him in the area.

50′ Neymar rolls in Rafinha, who reaches the byline before his cross is blocked and cannons off the pitch for a goal-kick to the visitors.

49′ Dagba races away down the right, however, his attempted reverse pass to Sarabia is cut out before the PSG attacker can get to it in the area.

48′ Rafinha uncharacteristically gives possession away which allows Dijon to break down the left but they do not capitalise on the opportunity and instead lose possession.

46′ Both teams are back on the pitch and referee Hamel gets the game back underway.

Tuchel will be delighted that despite rotating his side fairly heavily, they are still dominating this game so far. The trio of Sarabia, Neymar and Kean look like they could score every time they get into the area and it is hard to see how Jobard’s men get back into this game in the second half.

Paris go in 2-0 leaders at half-time in what has been a fairly open game at Parc des Princes. Kean, who has been clinical in the area, has grabbed both goals for the hosts. However, it hasn’t all been straightforward for Tuchel’s side, as Marquinhos’ lapse in concentration nearly gifted Balde an equaliser at 1-0.

45′ + 1′ HALF-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 2-0 DIJON

M. Konaté

Yellow Card

Dijon

45′ + 1′ Konate is booked for hacking down Neymar from behind and perhaps for the confrontation after the challenge.

45′ There will be one minute of added time as Neymar reacts badly to a foul by Konate near the halfway line.

44′ Sarabia finds himself clean through on goal against Allagbe but takes too much time stalling onto his left foot and the chance is gone.

43′ Neymar gives away possession near the centre circle which allows Ebimbe to counter-attack. The midfielder drives into the area before his shot is blocked by Danilo.

41′ Boey theatrically throws himself to the floor after being clipped by Rafinha. Despite his dramatics, referee Hamel awards Dijon a free-kick near the right-hand touchline.

40′ Dagba’s excellent sliding tackle releases Draxler, who feeds in Neymar. The winger then beats his man and drags a left-footed shot across goal but Kean can’t quite stretch to grab his hat-trick at the back post.

39′ Kean is a bit too enthusiastic as he needlessly brings down Ecuele Manga as PSG looked to have made it through Dijon’s defensive line.

37′ Ebimbe is down for a while after a collision with Rafinha but opts against receiving treatment and returns to his feet to carry on with the game.

36′ Danilo is again the man to meet the set-piece, however, this time, despite being unmarked, he can only head wide of Allagbe’s net.

35′ Draxler rolls in Dagba, who looks to cross but his attempts are blocked at the near post by Muzinga and out for a corner.

33′ Dijon earn yet another corner on the left which Chouiar will take. This time Balde towers above all the other players but can only head over the bar.

31′ SAVE! Neymar crosses in from a short-free kick on the right and Danilo climbs the highest to head powerfully towards goal. The centre-back’s effort looks set for the back of the net until Allagbe makes a remarkable diving save to his right.

30′ Neymar finds tons of room in between Dijon’s lines, receiving the ball with his back to goal before sliding in Sarabia, whose left-footed shot is then straight at Allagbe and saved.

29′ Sarabia’s frustrations can be heard as he attempts to play a simple square ball to Neymar for a tap-in but a Dijon man gets there just in time to clear the danger away for a corner.

27′ Jobar must be wondering what he can do to stop the rot here. Every time the hosts go forward they look like scoring and his side keep wasting decent opportunities when they get the chance at the other end.

25′ Back down the other end, Chouiar has a free-kick out wide and forces Rico into making a fairly routine save as he tips one over the bar.

Neymar

Assist

PSG

23′ Neymar does all the hard work as he draws in two defenders and the goalkeeper but opts to unselfishly pass to Kean in the area to set up the second goal.

M. Kean

Goal

PSG

23′ GOALLL!! 2–0 PSG! Dijon have a corner but it is PSG who score the second goal of the game! Sarabia releases Neymar from deep in his own half, the Brazilian then rounds two defenders before setting up Kean to tap-in to an empty net.

22′ The visitors attempt to play a free-kick quickly through Ndong, however, referee Hamel is having none of it and calls play back to near the centre circle.

20′ WIDE! Ebimbe drives through the heart of PSG’s midfield, reaching the edge of the area before unleashing a wicked right-footed effort. The shot is travelling at some speed as it beats Rico but falls the wrong side of the post.

19′ Marquinhos is running this game in midfield at the minute, constantly feeding the runs of Sarabia, Kean or Neymar and the Dijon midfield can get nowhere near PSG’s captain so far.

17′ Sarabia is caught late by Muzinga and Tuchel’s side will, again, have a free-kick in a good position about 25 yards from goal. Neymar opts to cross this time but the Dijon defence stand firm to clear their lines.

16′ The hosts have won their last five Ligue 1 games, the longest current run in the division. They have also kept a clean sheet in four of these five games, as many as in their previous 14.

14′ After a change of boots and a bit of medical attention, Neymar is fit to come back on.

12′ There is more chaos inside the Dijon area as Sarabia sets up Neymar, who is clattered by Ecuele Manga before Marquinhos fires a wild shot wide of goal. The Brazillian international stays on the floor and the hosts’ medical team come on to tend to him.

10′ Neymar dances round three defenders and is then brought down by Lautoa. PSG have a free-kick in a great positon right on the edge of the area but Neymar sends it over over the bar.

8′ OFF THE POST! Sarabia reaches the byline before standing up a cross towards the back post, which Neymar meets and heads past Allagabe but it hits the far post! The rebound then falls at the feet of the Brazillian but he can only sky the second chance.

7′ SAVE! A stray pass backwards by Marquinhos nearly gifts Balde the perfect chance to equalise. After pouncing on the wayward pass, the winger can only fire at the feet of Rico from inside the area.

5′ Sarabia has acres of space but can only fire his cross at the feet of Panzo. The PSG winger then has a second chance to cross, finding Kean in the area, however, he can only head well over the target.

M. Bakker

Assist

PSG

3′ Bakker makes it to the byline before whipping in a cross with his left foot towards the front post for Kean to score.

M. Kean

Goal

PSG

3′ GOALLLLL!!! 1-0 PSG! Kean grabs the opener at the front post after getting on the end of Bakker’s cross. The striker managed to get across the front of Panzo before producing the finish on the volley with his right foot.

2′ Muzinga goes in strongly on Rafinha but luckily for the hosts, the ball falls to the feet of Danilo as opposed to Konate, who was looking to break through near the halfway line.

1′ Referee Johan Hamel blows his whistle to signal the start of the game.

The players are making their way onto the pitch at Parc des Princes and shortly the game will be underway.

It is hard to look past three points for the hosts here. They have won 100% of their Ligue 1 home games against Dijon (5/5), their joint-highest ratio among teams they’ve faced at least five times in the top-flight, level with Sedan.

Stephane Jobard makes three changes to his team that drew with Rennes. Muzinga replaces left-back Anibal Chaula, who was hauled off at half-time last game. The other changes see Kounate and Boey come in for Chafik and Sammaritano.

Neymar, Danilo and Diallo are the only three to keep their places from Tuesday as Thomas Tuchel makes eight changes. As expected Mbappe is rested, while at the other end Rico starts in goal.
