90′ + 3′ FULL-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 1-2 MANCHESTER UNITED

90′ + 3′ PSG have a goal-kick and Navas goes for the direct approach in a last-ditch attempt to get his team forward. Mbappe strays offside though, and that’s that!

90′ + 2′ Man United win a late corner off Pereira. James wisely takes it short to use up a few more valuable seconds for PSG.

M. Kean

Yellow Card

PSG

90′ There are three additional minutes. Kean is booked for a slightly agricultural tackle on Fred.

89′ Neymar goes looking in vain for another PSG equaliser. The Brazilian aims for the top right corner with his shot but can’t quite get the angle right.

D. James

A. Martial

Manchester United

88′ Martial trots off the pitch too. James gets an outing for the final minutes of this game.

D. van de Beek

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United

88′ Man United make some changes to wind down the block. The influential Fernandes is replaced by van de Beek.

P. Pogba

Assist

Manchester United

87′ Pogba can claim the assist but Neymar showed no interest in defending there at all. You can’t afford to switch off like that, no matter how good a forward you are.

M. Rashford

Goal

Manchester United

87′ GOAL! PSG 1-2 MAN UNITED! Rashford has punished PSG again! The England international receives a pass from Pogba, turns smartly on the edge of the box and smashes a shot across Navas into the bottom left corner.

M. Bakker

L. Kurzawa

PSG

86′ Kurzawa’s game is also over. Bakker replaces him.

Pablo Sarabia

Á. Di María

PSG

86′ PSG make a few more changes. Di Maria is off. Sarabia is on for him.

Danilo Pereira

Yellow Card

PSG

84′ Pereira earns himself a yellow card for a foul on Fred. Either side can still win this.

83′ De Gea makes another solid save to deny Neymar’s effort from outside the box. You can see why he’s still keeping Dean Henderson out of the United team.

81′ Rashford rolls a peashooter of a shot towards Navas. Up the other end, PSG win a corner. The hosts queue up in Man United’s penalty area but they can’t create a clear shooting chance.

C. Dagba

A. Florenzi

PSG

79′ Next on for PSG is Dagba. He replaces Florenzi at right-back.

Rafinha

Ander Herrera

PSG

79′ PSG make two changes. Herrera is first to make way for Rafinha.

78′ Martial is over-eager in challenging Diallo and PSG get a free-kick. Shortly after, Fernandes swishes wide from Rashford’s pass. Man United are continuing to threaten, although their final ball is letting them down at times.

76′ Florenzi takes the corner and finds the head of Kean who’s been largely quiet. The Italian can’t keep his header down.

74′ PSG get a corner out of Fred. Man United hold firm once more. The deeper we get into this game, the more anxious these two sides are going to get. A draw looks about right at the moment.

A. Tuanzebe

Yellow Card

Manchester United

72′ Tuanzebe is booked for bringing down Mbappe in a promising position. The 22-year-old has looked a mature presence in the Man United defence in this match.

71′ This game is finely poised now as Man United know the win is still there for the taking. Pogba looks to find Fernandes but the Portuguese midfielder is offside.

69′ Man United get a few more half-chances. Fernandes fires over from way out then Rashford gets a save out of Navas just outside the box. PSG see out United’s corner.

P. Pogba

Alex Telles

Manchester United

67′ Man United make the first substitution as they switch to 4-3-3. Telles makes way for Pogba. Fernandes will move to the left flank.

65′ Di Maria picks up possession to the left of the box following PSG’s corner and lashes an effort just over the bar.

63′ Fernandes puts a stop to Neymar’s run down the left flank. Soon after, PSG win their eighth corner of the game, again off Wan-Bissaka.

61′ Rashford dashes down the right channel once again and fires high and wide. The pressure on Man United is building though as Mbappe has another penalty appeal turned down.

59′ Man United get through the corner and head forward to win one of their own as Rashford is intercepted. The Englishman’s proving to be a nuisance up front for PSG’s defenders. McTominay’s header is blocked and Martial heads over from Shaw’s follow-up cross.

57′ PSG’s tails are up now. Mbappe is starting to look really menacing. Di Maria slips the Frenchman through again and Wan-Bissaka is on hand to block once more. It’ll be another PSG corner.

A. Martial

Own Goal

Manchester United

55′ GOAL! PSG 1-1 MAN UNITED! Martial tries to head away Neymar’s corner at the far post but can’t manage it and instead can only nod it into his own net. PSG are level!

54′ Wan-Bissaka hands PSG a corner as he struggles to keep Mbappe at bay. PSG are really keen to find that equaliser…

52′ Man United are still on top, just. Lindelof ventures forward from the back and rolls a tame shot towards goal from range. Navas has it covered.

50′ Man United win a corner now as Martial almost beats Diallo to a ball to the byline. United’s corner is inconsequential.

49′ Man United deal with the corner easily enough but concede a free-kick as Telles brings down Di Maria. Herrera comes close from the free-kick but fires just wide to the left. It’s a decent effort.

48′ There’s chances at both ends! First Fernandes puts Rashford through and it’s two versus one! Rashford looks for Martial when he should shoot himself and gets it all wrong. PSG get the ball upfield quickly. Mbappe steps inside and inspires a fantastic save from De Gea. That’s the third vital save the Spaniard has made so far.

46′ PSG get this second half going.

M. Kean

I. Gueye

PSG

45′ PSG make a substitution at half-time. The Italian striker Kean, on loan from Everton, comes on for Gueye.

PSG will no doubt come out firing in the second half. Their last home defeat at this stage of the Champions League was way back in 2004. They were a very different side then, and Tuchel won’t want his side to get back into the habit of home losses now. What will PSG do to try to turn this game around?

Man United can be very pleased with their showing so far. Solskjaer’s team have managed PSG’s threat very well and lead through Fernandes’ penalty, even if he was slightly fortunate to get the chance to retake it. PSG’s illustrious front three haven’t quite clicked yet in this match.

45′ + 2′ HALF-TIME: PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED

45′ + 1′ PSG’s first half is summed up as Mbappe’s shot from range hits the back of Neymar and goes out for a goal-kick. The hosts have looked slightly disjointed.

45′ There’ll be two added minutes before half-time. Kurzawa swings a cross in from the left but there’s no one in PSG colours in the box to get on the end of it.

43′ PSG keep looking for that ball behind the Man United defence but it hasn’t paid off yet. Crosses are proving more fruitful for the hosts as De Gea is forced to punt away under pressure from Mbappe.

41′ Man United go hunting again. Rashford bears down on the box from the left and is just about to have a crack at goal when Diallo gets in to make a well-timed challenge.

39′ Man United win another corner as the ball deflects off Diallo and nearly creeps in at the near post. PSG are able to sort themselves out on the second attempt. The hosts are looking rattled at the moment.

38′ Fernandes comes close to a second! De Gea’s fast goal-kick leaves Man United’s two strikers against one PSG defender, but Martial makes a hash of the shot. No matter as Fernandes aims for the bottom right corner and Navas dives across to make the save. Telles will take the corner.

37′ Neymar and DI Maria are standing over the free-kick. It’s Di Maria who takes it and it’s easily gathered by De Gea. The rain is really coming down here in Paris, by the way.

S. McTominay

Yellow Card

Manchester United

36′ McTominay is next to find himself in the book with a sliding challenge on Neymar. Man United are doing well at handling PSG on the counter-attack.

Neymar

Yellow Card

PSG

34′ Mbappe shows a scary burst of pace to get into the box from the left. Tuanzebe does extremely well to intercept and clear. PSG cry for a penalty and Neymar is booked for protesting too much.

33′ This time it’s Neymar who sees the wrath of the offside flag as Kurzawa tries to slip him through. PSG may be down at the moment but their pace will never fail to be terrifying.

31′ PSG are starting to find space behind Man United’s back line. Di Maria races onto Kimpembe’s throughball. De Gea is straight out to smother the chance. It’s a great save. Di Maria’s offside anyway.

29′ Neymar and Mbappe have been kept quiet so far. McTominay muscles Kurzawa off the ball but PSG pick up the pieces. Gueye sends a teasing ball towards Neymar that Shaw heads away.

27′ Fernandes has scored 11 of his 12 penalties for Man United in all competitions. The man has been transformative for United since he arrived in January. It feels like he’s been in a United shirt for ages.

25′ Man United are coursing with confidence now. The visitors win a corner off Kurzawa but Telles’ effort is cleared. Up the other end, De Gea sweeps up as Neymar gets a sniff of goal.

Bruno Fernandes

Penalty Goal

Manchester United

23′ GOAL! PSG 0-1 MAN UNITED! This time Fernandes makes no mistake. The midfielder rolls the ball the same way, Navas goes the other way, and United have the lead! Is history repeating itself for PSG?

21′ NAVAS SAVES THE PENALTY! Fernandes takes a hop and a skip and fires to the right but the PSG keeper guesses the right way and keeps United’s talisman out! Hang on… It’s going to be retaken as Navas came off his line! PSG are protesting but those are the rules these days.

20′ PENALTY FOR MAN UNITED! Shaw plays a lovely ball into the box and Martial is dragged to the ground by Diallo. It’s a clear penalty, albeit slightly against the run of play.

19′ Man United are picking up pace now. Fernandes slips Martial into the left of the box. Martial goes for goal but fires high and wide.

17′ Di Maria has picked up a bit of a knock and the referee stops play so he can get seen to. It looks like the Argentine will be OK to continue.

15′ McTominay tugs on Neymar’s shirt and concedes a free-kick in a central position. The Scot will have to be careful. Neymar steps up to take the free-kick and it’s blocked by Man United’s defensive wall.

13′ Chance for PSG! PSG win another corner and Man United can’t clear. Mbappe whips in a cross from the left and De Gea saves from Kurzawa at point-blank range! Telles is fouled by Florenzi and United survive for now.

11′ PSG force the first decent save of the game as Di Maria’s shot from outside the box is saved by De Gea. It was heading for the bottom left corner. It’ll be a corner to PSG.

9′ Fernandes crosses the ball into the PSG box but the hosts hold firm. There’s an entertaining zip to this game already.

7′ Man United get some early respite as Fernandes is fouled by Kurzawa in United’s half. PSG look highly motivated, as they should be after these sides’ last meeting.

5′ PSG win two corners in a row as they attack down their left. Both times they’re worked short and both times Man United deal with them.

3′ Man United go on the attack quickly as Martial is caught offside from De Gea’s direct throughball.

1′ We’re underway here in Paris!

The two sides are out on the Parc des Princes pitch. PSG are in their usual home colours of blue, red and white. Man United are in their zebraesque black and white third kit.

PSG have learnt from their shock 3-1 defeat here to Man United n March 2019. They’ve won all four of their Champions League home matches since then; in fact, they haven’t lost at home in the Champions League group stage since 2012/13. However, United have lost just two of their opening games in their 22 Champions League campaigns. Will either side budge this time?

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel makes five changes to the side that defeated Nimes 4-0 in Ligue 1 last time out as ex-Man United man Herrera starts in midfield. United have three different players starting from their 4-1 win away to Newcastle at the weekend. Fernandes captains the side in Maguire’s absence.

The last time the two sides met in March 2019, Man United came away surprise winners in a last 16 tie that is widely regarded to have landed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a permanent job as United boss. This time, in what looks like this year’s group of death, the stakes are no less high.

The European roller coaster starts again for PSG and Man United after both teams came close to glory last season. PSG of course lost to Bayern Munich in the final of this competition in August, while United lost to eventual winners Sevilla in the semi-finals of the Europa League.
