Pick It: TBRB #5 Yordenis Ugas vs. Abel Ramos (Sunday, Fox, 8 PM EST)
Nationally televised boxing brings us one of best welterweights in the world. 34-year old Yordenis Ugas (25-4, 12 KO) is 10-1 since consecutive losses in 2014 and many believe he could be on an 11-0 run.
The 1 in 10-1 is a debated decision against the excellent Shawn Porter. 29-year old Abel Ramos (26-3-2, 20 KO) may prove a cut below the top level in the deep welterweight class but he’s got a chance to make his own fortunes. Ramos has won eight straight since a narrow loss to Jamal James. Former titlist Rances Barthelemy (27-1, 14 KO) is also in action at Jr. welterweight against Alberto Puello (17-0, 9 KO).
Additional Shows to Watch For
Wednesday – Ennis-Brown vs. Bowes (ESPN+, 2 PM EST)
Mid-week Jr. welterweight action centers on a promising prospect. 24-year old Akeem Ennis-Brown (13-0, 1 KO) hasn’t shown a lot of pop to date but he finds the winner’s circle. 36-year old Phillip Bowes (20-3, 3 KO) has only been stopped once so expect to see some rounds here.
Friday – Moran vs. Solis (Telemundo, 11:35 PM EST)
We probably won’t be watching future champions here but it might still be some good late night fun in the welterweight division. 27-year old Antonio Moran (24-4, 17 KO) is 1-2-1 in his last four, including his lone stoppage loss to Devin Haney. 28-year old Luis Solis (25-10-4, 21 KO) has lost two of his last three with both defeats inside the distance.
Saturday – #4 Herring vs. Oquendo (ESPN+, 7:30 PM EST)
Delayed by COVID, 34-year old Jamel Herring (21-2, 10 KO) gets back to the business of defending his Jr. lightweight strap in the main event. 37-year old Jonathan Oquendo (31-6, 19 KO) is 5-1 in his last six starts and, while stopped twice, hasn’t suffered that fate since 2012. Undefeated super middleweight Steven Nelson (16-0, 13 KO) faces DeAndre Ware (13-2-2, 8 KO) in support.
