According to Cleveland.com, a judge in Cleveland has sentenced former four division world champion Adrien Broner to seven days in jail after ruling that he violated his probation in a 2018 case in which he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a nightclub.

Judge Sherrie Miday ruled on Wednesday that she hoped the sentence would be a “wake-up call” to the 31-year-old fighter – after he was arrested in Miami in March for driving while intoxicated.

Deputies escorted Broner out of Miday’s courtroom to a jail cell.

Back in November 2018, Broner faced numerous charges after a 35-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at a nightclub in Cleveland’s Warehouse District neighborhood during the 2018 NBA Finals.

In April 2019, Broner pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful restraint, both misdemeanors. He was given two years of probation.

Broner told the judge that he was struggling due to a recent break up with his wife and needed professional counseling.

The woman who accused Broner of sexual assault has also sued him in civil court.

Because he never hired a lawyer and ignored the lawsuit, Common Pleas Court Judge Nancy Margaret Russo issued a default judgement in December ordered Broner to pay the woman $830,000.

The woman’s lawyers filed a motion earlier this month accusing Broner of not responding to document requests and failing to show up for a scheduled deposition in that case. The judge has now given Broner 28 days to respond to the motion or she will consider ordering sanctions.

Broner (33-4-1) has been out of the ring since January 2019, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao.
