Mikey Garcia: The Manny Pacquiao Fight Interests Me The Most

Former four division champion Mikey Garcia is still very much interested in facing Manny Pacquiao in the fall.

Garcia, and Danny Garcia, have long been named as the preferable opponents for Pacquiao’s next fight.

Danny Garcia is now out of contention, after reaching an agreement to fight WBC, IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence on Fox Sports pay-per-view in November.

Mikey Garcia was last in the ring back in February, when he won a dominant decision over former two division champion Jessie Vargas.

Pacquiao has been out of the ring since July of 2019, when he fought his way to a twelve round split decision over Keith Thurman to capture the WBA welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The coronavirus pandemic has pushed back Pacquiao’s plans to return in the summer months.

There is some talk of coming back before the year is over.

Last year, Garcia made a big jump from lightweight to welterweight, and lost a lopsided decision when he challenged Spence.

While some expected him to drop down to junior welterweight, Garcia has decided to stay put at the welterweight limit of 147-pounds, where he’s very motivated to capture another world title.

Most observers view the 41-year-old Pacquiao as Garcia’s best opportunity to capture gold at the weight.

“I would love it and it would be an honor to go up in the ring with Manny Pacquiao. He is a legend. It would be something great and it is the fight that interests me the most. Actually, we have not reached any agreement [with his team], I have not communicated with anyone from his team. But I would love it,” Garcia expressed to ESPN Deportes.
