IBF lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez recently went live on Instagram as he prepares for his October 3rd showdown against WBA/WBO/WBC Franchise lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.  The fight has been pushed back multiple times because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but Lopez has continued to train.

The fight will likely take place in Las Vegas where both fighters’ promoter Top Rank has been putting on cards in “The Bubble” inside of the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

Top Rank chairman Bob Arum is hopeful that they will be able to have fans in attendance for the fight but said that even if local lawmakers prohibit fans from attending that the show will still go on.

While live on social media, Lopez answered several fans’ questions including one on the recently ordered Ryan Garcia-Luke Campbell showdown.  The WBC recently ordered the fight for the interim lightweight title. Garcia’s promoter Golden Boy and Campbell’s promoter Matchroom Boxing are trying to come to an agreement to make the fight come to fruition.

Lopez sparred with Campbell and believes that the UK native has a good chance to beat Garcia.

He also denied any talk that Campbell got the best of him in their sparring sessions.

“May the best man win. That is a 50-50 fight. I like it. I still think that Campbell might have the edge though. I sparred with Campbell. I heard a lot of sh-t people were talking about. It is crazy how word goes back around and then when it hits you that isn’t really what happened,” Lopez stated.

When Lopez and Lomachenko set foot in the ring they will both be coming off of long layoffs.  Lopez last fought in December when he stopped Richard Commey in two rounds to capture his world title.  It is an even longer layoff for Lomanchenko. He hasn’t fought since August when he beat Campbell by unanimous decision.
