Is It Too Soon For A Keyshawn Davis Vs Frank Martin Matchup ?

By Vince D’Writer: The 2020 Olympic Silver medalist Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis is a highly touted prospect, who doesn’t like being compared to other top prospects due to the fact that he feels like he’s on a different level. Normally when big time prospects turn pro, the matchmakers traditionally pair the prospect up with boxers with limited pro experience, or a small amount of success, but Davis is open to fighting boxers who are seasoned, and who have prevailed inside of the squared circle.

For the fifth fight of his pro career, Keyshawn Davis fought Esteban Sanchez, a lightweight who came into the match with a record of (18-1, 8 KOs). During the first five rounds of the bout, Davis systematically broke Sanchez down primarily with the jab and the lead left hook. In the sixth round Davis was ready to close the show as he unleashed a barrage of hooks and uppercuts which forced the referee to step in and stop the bout.

For his sixth professional fight, Davis stepped into the ring with Omar Tienda, a man who had 30 professional fights on his resume, and out of those 30 fights Tienda was able to come out victorious in 25 of those bouts. Unfortunately for Tienda, his opponent was too skilled of a fighter, as Davis was able to use Tienda’s aggression against him. In the fifth round of the fight, Tienda was coming forward attempting to land a jab, and Davis proceeded to come over the top with a hard right counter.

The counter shot sent Tienda down to the canvas, but Tienda was able to get up. Seconds later Davis hit Tienda with a combination that knocked Tienda back into the ropes. Davis continued the assault until the referee stepped in and put a halt to the contest. Now with a record of (6-0, 5 KOs), the Norfolk, Virginia native is interested in matches that will put him on the fast track to convert from a prospect to a contender.

Keyshawn Davis is a young boxer who is confident, motivated, and he isn’t afraid of a challenge. The 23-year-old has a high boxing IQ, and he has the ability to do whatever he wants to do inside of the ring.

Davis is an elite physical talent who has a phenomenal support system as he trains and routinely spars with the current WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford. A topic of discussion that’s starting to gain momentum is a potential matchup between Keyshawn Davis and a man who is linked to Terence Crawford’s biggest rival.”

Frank “The Ghost” Martin (16-0 12 KOs), is a lightweight prospect who is promoted by unified WBA, WBC, IBF welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence. Martin is a technically sound boxer who has all the tools, and he’s currently ranked fourteenth by the WBA. The last time Martin was in the ring he defeated Jackson Marinez by TKO. The first half of the fight was very competitive, but Frank Martin stepped up the intensity in the seventh round. He knocked Marinez down in the ninth, and he finished him off in the tenth.

Keyshawn Davis is in the early stages of his boxing career, but it seems as though he embraces the challenge of navigating his career on the fast track. When a potential matchup between he and Frank Martin was mentioned by Antt, a co-host on The Porterway Podcast, Davis verbalized his brief opinion of the potential matchup being premature for his opponent. “Frank Martin not ready man. He ain’t ready.”

Rumors are floating around in regards to Frank Martin facing Chris Colbert (16-1, 6 KOs) sometime in the near future. If Martin is able to get by Colbert, fight fans would love to see a clash between Frank Martin and Keyshawn Davis. Will this fight be next? Probably not, but these two young phenoms are on a collision course, and sooner or later this fight is destined to happen.
