Scot breaks Jemma Reekie’s meeting record with 2:02.70 while UK W45 1500m record falls to Lesley Bell

SCOTTISH ATHLETICS NATIONAL INDOOR OPEN, Emirates Arena, January 21

    Jenny Selman made a good season’s debut with a 2:02.70 800m to better Jemma Reekie’s meeting best of a 2:03.06 from 2019.

Under-20 athlete Dean Patterson ran a 21.23 200m Scottish indoor native record, breaking Elliot Bunney’s 32 year-old mark for senior athletes.

Patterson is still only 16 years old and was a finalist in last year’s European Under-18 Championships 200m and won his heat and semi but was unfortunately disqualified in the 200m final but he did win a medal in the medley relay.

Lesley Bell set a British masters W45 record of 4:37.58 in the 1500m to narrowly eclipse the 4:38.05 set by Clare Elms at the British Masters Championships in 2009.

There was also Scottish Masters M45 indoor 400m record for Ian Horsburgh of 51.71.
