Charlo says his brother Jermell makes him look good

By Robert Segal: Jermall Charlo believes that his high-achieving twin brother Jermell Charlo, who just became the undisputed champion at 154, is making him look good by the things he’s accomplishing.

Jermall (32-0, 22 KOs) feels that Jermell’s achievements at 154 help his career, as the boxing fans look at him in a favorable light. Unfortunately, that’s not what’s happening.

Fans see Jermall lagging behind his brother, failing to show the same ambition with his rudderless career, failing to take risks needed to achieve.

It’s sad how Jermall’s management is choosing to match him, and even worse that Showtime bothers to televise his mismatches against fodder-level no-name opposition. Recently, Charlo pulled out of his June 18th fight against Maciej Sulecki; a fighter Demetrius Andrade schooled in 2019.

Stultified, Jermall is stuck at 160, defending his WBC title annually against no-name opposition and not impressing. Charlo last fought a year ago in June, barely beating former Jaime Munguia knockout victim, Juan Macias Montiel, and lucky to win.

“My brother is a legend. We’ve made history already. He unified the division,”  said Jermall to Showtime Sports about his high-achieving twin brother, Jermell, who has accomplished far more in his career than he.

“He stayed in one division long enough to gain ground at 154,” Jermall said about his more ambitious brother Jermell. “Now, he’s taking over the land. You got to call a King a King when you see one.

“Maybe we can become the twins that move up and rein for all the belts simultaneously at 160, like we did at 154, making history twice. I’ve always been motivated by my brother.

“The great thing about it is, the better he does, the better I look. The better I do, the better he look,” said Jermall, sounding confused.

“We shared the same womb. It’s our nature to be great. As long as he’s great, I’m great. As long as I keep winning, he’s winning. He’s too small,” said Jermall when told that Terence Crawford says he’s going to move up to 154 after he beats Errol Spence Jr. and ‘F*** up [Jermell] Charlo.’

“My brother is a dangerous fighter and I told Bud, ‘Hey, fall back.’ They all talk that until they really get in and do that. Bud got a lot more to worry about then Jermell.

“You can’t just jump up in the tree. You got to start slowly. If so, let’s see what he do. I’m pretty sure my brother would entertain the fact that Bud Crawford wants to fight him.

“We [Crawford] spoke on social media, and we spoke in person. Bud respects me a lot, and he’s got a lot of respect for my brother, but sometimes he lets the fans get to his head. That’s because he didn’t get the best side of the contract when it comes to his career,” said Jermall.
