By Ken Hissner: At the Fantasy Casino, Indio, California, Thursday over DAZN Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions in the Main Event presented former WBO World Flyweight champion Angel “Tito” Acosta of San Juan, Puerto Rico, stopping Janiel “Pototo” Rivera of Catano, Puerto Rico in the first round.
In the co-main event, unbeaten Featherweight Victor Morales of Portland, Oregon, scored a pair of knockdowns in defeating game Alberto Torres of Sacramento, California, over ten rounds.
In the main event, Super Flyweight Angel “Tito” Acosta, 23-3 (22), #114 of San Juan, PR, stopped southpaw Janiel “Pototo” Rivera, 18-9-3 (11), #114 of Catano, PR, at 1:19 of the first round of a scheduled ten rounds.
In the first round, Acosta came out fast with Rivera on the run. He finally caught up with him after a minute scoring two dozen punches without return from Rivera, who was defenseless, causing Referee Raul Caiz, Jr. to wisely call a halt.
In the co-main event, Victor Morales, 16-0-1 (8), #125 ½, of Portland, OR, scored a pair of knockdowns and defeated game southpaw Alberto “Chivo” Torres, 11-5-3 (4), #125 ½, of Sacramento, CA, over ten rounds.
In the second round’s final seconds, Torres rocked Morales with a left on the chin. In the third round, Morales landed a solid left uppercut halfway through the round on the chin of Torres taking a second round. In the fifth round, a right from Morales to the midsection dropped Torres for an 8-count by referee Ray Corona.
In the seventh and eighth rounds, Morales landed several hard rights on the chin of southpaw Torres, who kept coming forward with hands held high. In the ninth round, Morales suffered a cut under his right eyebrow due to an accidental clash of heads.
In the tenth and final round, halfway through, Morales dropped Torres with three rights on the chin for an 8-count from referee Corona.
Scores were 100-88 with this writer 99-89.
Featherweight Rudy “El Tiburon” Garcia, 13-0-1 (2), #125, of L.A., CA, defeated Diuhl “Elegante” Olguin, 15-23-5 (10), #124 ¾, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, MEX, over 8 rounds.
In the first four rounds, Garcia outworked Olguin, who never stopped trying. In the fifth round, an accidental clash of heads caused a cut on the bridge of Garcia’s nose.
In the sixth and seventh rounds, both fighters mixed it up well, with Garcia continuing out, landing Olguin.
In the eighth and final round, Garcia had Olguin against the ropes for most of the round in taking another round. The Referee was Raul Caiz, Jr.
Scores were 80-72, 79-73 twice, with this writer 78-74.
Super Welter 20-year-old Eric Tudor, 4-0 (3), #154, of Hollywood, FL, defeated Donte Stubbs, 6-5 (2), 157 ½, of Riverside, CA, over six rounds.
In the first three rounds, the taller Tudor used an effective jab, while Stubbs ended all three rounds with a solid right to the head of Tudor. In the fourth round, Tudor continued out, landing Stubbs in a close fight. In the fifth round, it was Tudor ending the round with a solid right on the chin of Stubbs.
In the sixth and final round, Stubbs knowing he was behind, went for the knockout with wild overhand rights that missed as Tudor countered. The Referee was Ray Corona.
Scores were 60-54, with this writer 58-56.
Welter 3-time Nicaragua National champ Jimmy “Lone Wolf” Brenes, 2-0 (1), #146 ¼, of Masaya, NIC, won a majority decision over Hector Perez, 0-1-1 (0), #145 ¾, of West L.A, CA, in 4 action-packed rounds.
In the first two rounds, it was full of action, with both boxers having their way at times. In the fourth and final round Brenes with left hooks to the body and rights to the head, drew blood from the nose of Perez, who never stopped coming forward in an all-action fight. The referee was Ray Corona.
Scores were 38-38, 40-36 twice, and 39-37 by this writer.
