Juan Manuel Marquez Picks Canelo To KO Golovkin

By Dan Ambrose: Juan Manuel Marquez is picking Canelo Alvarez to defeat Gennadiy Golovkin by knockout on September 17th.

Marquez believes the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (57-2-2, 39 KOs) has the 40-year-old Golovkin’s fighting style all figured out, and he’ll take the fight to him to batter him in the center of the ring.

As Marquez points out, it wouldn’t be good for Canelo to take a loss to Golovkin (42-1-1, 37 KOs), given that he lost his last fight to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol on May 7th.

Another defeat for Canelo would be catastrophic for his career, and he’s got to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Although Marquez failed to touch on this topic, it’s crucial that Canelo win without controversy this time because the perception from the boxing public is that Golovkin was robbed in the first fight with the Mexican star and given the business again in the rematch when the judges on hand scored it a victory for Alvarez.

“One is not always going to run with the same luck of winning, but now I think he is going to win by way of knockout,” says Márquez to TV Boxeo with him predicting a stoppage victory for Canelo Alvarez over Gennadiy Golovkin on September 17th.

It’s going to be difficult for Canelo to knock out Golovkin because he doesn’t throw enough punches. Canelo tends to throw one shot at a time, and he takes breathers after expending energy.

Fighting like that isn’t going to produce a knockout against a fighter like Golovkin because he’ll be able to recover if he’s hurt.

“It’s motivating for Canelo to have lost to Bivol because another loss for a fighter like him would not be good,” said Marquez.

Canelo is definitely concerned about not letting Golovkin beat him, but there won’t be anything to do about it if he out-fights him again as he did in the first two bouts. The only thing Canelo could hope for is the Nevada judges giving him a decision regardless.

“In the second fight with Golovkin, he showed that he could beat him in the center of the ring,” said Marquez. “In the second fight, he figured out his style, and he’s going to beat him.”

“Canelo, because of the speed, the counterattacks, and the combinations, so he [Golovkin] will not withstand the attacks,” added Marquez.
